Well, the upside for the football program, is that they get to play. Penalty or 4 years no football? Own up and take the penalty and that's what they did. Was the NCAA a little harsh? Possibly. But was it well deserved? Definitely. They aren't going to get any good players for 4 years, plus players may leave to actually play for something, rather than just playing for Penn State with no postseason. And if they don't want to play football, the scholarship still pays for their education. So it's like wasting athletic scholarships because they almost become academic scholarships, which is not typically why an athlete is there.
